This can’t be good…

Bet-Expert US Betting Read on

The FBI is investigating allegations that veteran NBA referee Tim Donaghy bet on basketball games over the past two seasons, including ones in which he officiated. Defense attorney John Lauro confirmed Donaghy is under investigation but refused to comment on the allegations or the case.

According to a law enforcement official, authorities are examining whether the referee made calls to affect the point spread in games on which he or associates had wagered. The law enforcement official, who spoke to the AP on Friday on condition of anonymity, said the referee was aware of the investigation and had made arrangements to surrender as early as next week to face charges. The official, who did not identify the referee, is familiar with the investigation but was not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation. Read the rest of this entry »

Another Delay from Neteller

Bet-Expert Announcements Read on

NETeller U.S. members will be unlikely to positively receive the latest information according to which the payment processor will further delay refunds to its U.S. members.

“The Company believes that these and other recent developments will likely delay its efforts to resolve the investigation by a short period.” NETeller said on Thursday in a note to the London Stock Exchange.

Recent developments concern NETeller co-founder and former director John Lefebvre who pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy in connection with his role in NETeller’s prior involvement in handling financial transactions between gambling customers in the United States and offshore internet gambling businesses.

The other co-founder, Stephen Lawrence, pleaded guilty to a similar charge on June 29.

“Other than as shareholders, neither Mr Lawrence nor Mr Lefebvre has any current position with or connection to NETELLER.” The note said about the two men’s current involvement with the company.

NETeller had initially announced it would begin the refund process on or about July 13. However today’s note hints to possible further delays. NETeller U.S. members had their funds frozen on January 2007.

College Kid Shankar Pillai Wins Big at WSOP

Bet-Expert Poker Read on

Shankar Pillai is a half million dollars richer today thanks to his big win at the 2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP).
The New York Post reported that first-time competitor Shankar Pillai, 22, of Commack was one of more than 800 players who put up $3,000 to buy into the no-limit, Texas hold ‘em poker event, a game in which there are face-up community cards for all players to use and face-down hold cards for each player.

Pillai plays online poker with PokerStars.com.  He began playing poker on the Internet at age 15.

“I’d never played in a World Series of Poker event. I wanted to give it a shot,” said Pillai, who won $527,829. “It was pretty intimidating. We played for 12 and 14 hours a day. [But] I would say I held my own.”

The Finance Major is using online poker to pay for his college tuition.

“I make a lot of money online,” enough to pay tuition and bills and to put some into the bank, he said.

At first, he said, his parents had no clue he was a cyber card sharp, but that changed when checks started arriving at the family home with his name on them.

“They didn’t like it, but when they saw how much I was winning, they said it would be OK, as long as I stayed in school,” Pillai said.

“Now, after this, they don’t think it’s so bad,” he chuckled.

His poker hero is none other than UltimateBet’s celeb poker pro Phil Hellmuth, for whom he got a chance to play with recently.

“It was a really good experience. Even coming in, I told myself, I really wanna play with someone who I really look up to - basically, just to see what it’s like. At first it was so nerve-wracking, and I felt like he just knew what I had every single time. And I just got used to it. I’m so happy I played with the best in the world and still came out and took it down.”

Absolute Poker Pays Out $78,000!

Bet-Expert Poker, US Betting Read on

Within one day of releasing its new Bad Beat Jackpot game, Absolute Poker doled out nearly $78,000 to five lucky Absolute Poker players after the very first jackpot was hit. Less than 48 hours later, it was déjà vu for players of the new online poker game as the jackpot bells tolled once again.

“This is proof that Absolute Poker has taken the lead in making online poker more lucrative,” stated David Clainer, senior vice president for Absolute Poker. “When you can lose a hand and walk away with tens of thousands of dollars, it’s pretty amazing.” The first Bad Beat Jackpot was won early Saturday morning by CGA11 who lost quad tens to NEDKELLY’s straight flush. In traditional Texas Hold’em, CGA11 would have walked away from the table with nothing but a whole lot of anger.

However, at a Bad Beat Jackpot table, when a player loses a poker hand holding four two’s (2222) or anything better, they win the largest piece of the Bad Beat Jackpot.

In CGA11’s case, that meant nearly $40,000 for his losing hand. All poker players who were seated at the table where they bad beat occurred also shared in the jackpot. History repeated itself early Monday morning when MARKM3451 lost four of a kind to WHITETAIL0’s king high straight flush, losing the hand but winning nearly $13,000 by hitting the jackpot.

Absolute Poker is the only online poker site open to U.S. players to feature Bad Beat Jackpot tables. Full details on the latest addition to Absolute Poker’s suite of poker games can be found at bad beat poker.
